Everyone feels that you have to be politically correct, and depending on your business this may or may not be true. Creating controversy on the basis of engaging and creating a conversation between your consumers is sometimes a good marketing tactic. Do not be controversial over topics such as politics or religion, but instead, based around your industry. As for the online marketing industry, try asking questions such as "Is Facebook better then Twitter for marketing Product XYZ and why?" People tend to engage and converse when there is a popular conversation already taking place.
